Ai: Harmony, Unity, Confluence
Ki: Life energy
Do: The Path, the Way
Aikido originates in the Japanese martial arts culture. It was created by Morehei Ueshiba who realised that the Way of the Warrior was not to kill, injure or destroy, but to protect life and nurture peace and harmony.
The universal principles that we learn through our Aikido practice can be applied to every aspect of our daily living and have been central to the development of Velwell Orchard. Aikido gives us the skills we need to work together and to make effective use of our minds and bodies when tending the land. Aikido does not rely on physical strength and is suitable for all sorts of people. The hardest bit is to come and get on the mat!
If you live locally you can come and train at Buckfastleigh Dojo, run by Sensei Jeremy Weiss (4th Dan). Jeremy has been studying Aikido for over 15 years. Lessons are on Tuesdays from 7pm until 9pm in Buckfastleigh Town Hall. Children’s lessons are from 5:45pm until 6:30pm. Please use the Contact page to get in touch and let us know if you’d like to come and watch or join in.

“The divine is not something high above us.
It is in heaven, it is in earth, it is inside us”.
