The river is my solace. The cold is my tonic.
The sky was incredibly blue today. No planes spewing filth into the air we all breath. In the woods the birds were singing their hearts out and in the garden we sowed peas and beans. After a winter of hellish rain and mud, suddenly the land is transformed into an earthly heaven.
As I slipped silently into the freezing water I thought ... ——————————————— ... FUCK! That’s cold! But standing on the mossy rock, the evening sun warming my skin, drying me without the need of a towel, the feeling was bittersweet. Why can so few others feel what I feel right now, this thrill of existence, this oneness with life? It must be almost impossible surrounded by cities and people. Why do we continue to cover the Earth in concrete, fill the air with fumes and the rivers with shit? How did we lose our way so badly?
Well, what times we live in. I’ve just sent out an aikido lesson via email to my students. Never thought the day would come, but maintaining the unification of the mind and body has never been more important or relevant so I’ve done my best to provide something. It is my hope that when this is over we will all have a much deeper appreciation of Nature and it’s power. I hope that we will come to realise that we are not excluded from the natural order of things. I hope we will regain our respect.
