Today has been such a fabulous day at Velwell Orchard, Spring has arrived at last! After a very busy and full-on few weeks, things are beginning to look up for us so I thought it would be a good time to bring you up to date with goings on:
- Kate is getting better
- The weather is improving
- Two scythe courses coming up
- WWOOFers wanted
- Cob Course
Some of you will know that Kate has been really ill over the last few weeks. We’ve been in and out of hospital and she had to have an emergency operation. She’s now feeling much better and is resting well. We hope she’ll be back to full strength soon. Thanks to everyone for their kind support and good wishes.
It’s been a very dry and cold spring so far, and not good for growing vegetables and fruit! We had a couple of late frosts which have caused a lot of damage. Thankfully now the sun is out, and with a bit of rain and warmth things will soon begin to grow. There’s absolutely loads of work to do in the garden, so we will be really grateful of any help you can offer.
Due to Kate’s ill health we had to cancel the scythe course scheduled for last weekend. The good news is that we have rescheduled for the 20th and 21st of May. Unfortunately two people are unable to attend this date so we now have these places available. We also have another course booked for the 29th and 30th of July. To find out more click here.
We are very behind schedule on our planned natural building project this year, we havent started yet so we’re 5 weeks behind. We are looking for helpers who’d like to come and stay at Velwell Orchard in return for food, board, and the joy of building using natural materials. So please spread the word!
If you’re fairly new to cob you may like to come to our Cob Course which I’m running here on the 3rd of June through the Devon Rural Skills Trust. More details here.
