From Monday the 5th of October until Friday the 9th we’ll be spending a week working and playing here at Velwell Orchard.
On the Monday we’ll begin with apple pressing and pizza at lunch time. Please bring pizza toppings and apples for pressing and vessels to take juice home in.
On the Friday, Anthony, from Pentiddy will be here to help with the compost loo. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience living on the land, smallholding, and natural building techniques, so it’s well worth joining us then if that sort of thing interests you.
The Orchard will be open from sunrise until 4pm every day that week if you’d like to come and help with harvesting, cobbing, and getting the place tidied up. There’s loads to do before the Autumn storms arrive so if you can lend a hand we’d be really grateful.
From the 12th of October we’ll only be open Mondays until spring comes.
If you’re interested in learning about hedge laying, dry stone walling, coppicing, charcoal making and more there are lots of courses run locally by the Devon Rural Skills Trust. Check out their website at: www.drst.org.uk
You might also be interested in coming along with us to the newly purchased Huxham’s Cross Farm where we’ll be stirring and spraying the cowhorn manure preparation on the afternoon of the 25th of October… For more details get in touch.
