Velwell Orchard is a 2 acre smallholding nestled on a tiny tributary of the River Dart in Devon. We grow a variety of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and we have a few chickens and ducks.
Using traditional Rural Skills, and working with principles and concepts from Aikido and Biodynamics, we now farm the land together with the community, a relationship between land and people that strives to be mutually beneficial. All of the energy, time, materials and money required to run the project now come from individual donations. The produce from the farm is given away.
In today’s marketplace the consumer wants as much as possible for as little as possible but this often fosters greed and selfishness. Here, each individual takes only what they need, and gives only what they can. We hope this helps to encourage trust and generosity. To find out how this developed have a look at our history page.
Velwell Orchard is open to volunteers on Thursdays throughout the year as well as Mondays throughout the growing season (beginning of April until the end of September). You are welcome to visit to help out or collect produce anytime between sunrise and 4pm.

Please note that we have a strict no dog policy.
In times to come,
Human beings will have to live
The one for the other,
And not the one through the other.
Thus is reached the world’s ultimate aim,
When each one is with themselves
Yet each would give to the other,
What none would demand.
